Our History
The Thompson family were part of the British meat industry from 1904 when Alfred Thompson opened his first butcher shop. His son Bernard took it further and had 53 shops running successfully by the time of WW2.
Bernard’s sons Peter and David joined the business in the 1950s, they developed a national wholesale network based in Smithfield going onto to create a fully integrated multisite poultry production.
In 1982 Peter, the eldest, became the poultry specialist and founded the company that proudly bears his name. His son Stuart Thompson also joined the business.
Peter Thompson decided to hang up his butchers apron and the business was acquired by the Gressingham group, the business is now managed by Stephen Barber from JF Edwards wich is also part of the Gressingham Group. It continues to embrace all facets of the industry from butchery and poultry farming to market-trading and wholesale.
